The spirit of travel
Vientiane, Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang: this trio of Laotian cities can on its own deliver the most beautiful perspectives of Laos. Just 10 days and 9 nights with this itinerary are enough to visit them and uncover their treasures.
This travel formula will allow us to discover these cities and their surroundings at their best. Notably, we will have the opportunity to see the famous That Luang Stupa of the capital Vientiane, its numerous historical and cultural parks, its traditional saunas, and its hikes paired with ethnic encounters. We will then move to Vang Vieng to enjoy its karst scenery, its caves, its viewpoints, its riverside restaurants and the "swimming" experience of its famous blue lagoon. To finish, we will visit a Laotian city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site: Luang Prabang. This enchanting town captivates with its countless temples, but also for its colonial charm and its famous Kuang Si Falls. And between two destinations, we will get a clear glimpse of rural Laotian life through a buffalo farm, vast rice fields and minority villages. Blending discovery, craftsmanship and culture, this tour will show you the best of this former Kingdom of a Million Elephants that is Laos.
The stages of your journey
Highlights
Day-by-day itinerary

Hello Vientiane
To Vientiane
Upon your arrival at the Wattay international airport (flight booked by you and to be reconfirmed), you complete the entry formalities for Laotian territory. You are then welcomed by your local English-speaking guide before meeting your driver for the transfer to your hotel. Check-in and free time.
You can choose to take this opportunity to rest or explore Vientiane at your own pace. You can stroll around the many active temples that line the main street Setthathirath, observe the colonial residences in the city center or head to the banks of the Mekong to admire the sunset colors. You can also take a walk through the night market or in Chao Anouvong park, where locals enjoy gathering in the evening.
Dinner is on your own. For your evening, the small restaurants located along the banks of the Mekong offer different options suited to all budgets.

Discovering Vientiane
After your hotel breakfast, you begin at 8:30 AM discovering the main monuments of Vientiane, a small peaceful capital full of charm. You start with the That Luang (Pha That Luang), the most venerated stupa in the country, then discover Patuxay, Vientiane's Arc of Triumph. You continue to Vat Sisaket, before visiting the Ho Phra Keo Museum, which once housed the Emerald Buddha, now preserved in Bangkok.
Your morning ends at the COPE exhibition center, where you can better understand the consequences of the second Vietnam War and the devastation that UXOs continue to cause to local populations.
For lunch, you head to the Doi Ka Noi restaurant, located slightly outside the city center and committed to sustainable development. The first establishment of its kind in Laos to follow the slow food movement, it offers authentic and tasty Lao cuisine. Here, there is no fixed menu: dishes change daily according to products available at the market, the season as well as the wishes of chef Noy.
In the afternoon, you discover a flagship activity of Laotian culture: Muay Lao, similar to Thai boxing and practiced with feet, fists and knees. You learn more about this sport before participating in an accessible training session, where rigor and concentration blend with a convivial moment to share with your family.
At the end of the day, you head to a local sauna to discover another Laotian tradition: a medicinal herb sauna. A real gathering place, it allows people to meet up with friends or family, or simply enjoy a moment of relaxation. You alternate between steam bath and patio, where you can chat over a herbal infusion, before taking a cold shower. You can also observe local habits around body and skin care, particularly the use of creams and tamarind-based products.
Dinner on your own.

An orchid trek
After your hotel breakfast (included), the driver will be waiting for you at 7:20 AM in front of your accommodation. You will leave Vientiane, without a guide, heading towards the village of Ban Had Khai for a day dedicated to hiking. You will arrive at the village around 9:30 AM, where you will be welcomed by two local guides and an English-speaking host. Your picnic meal has been prepared in advance for the day. You will then head to the starting point of your hike, accessible from the park after 7 km of track. You will begin your "orchid trek" on the side of the Pha Say waterfalls, which offer a view over the jungle covering a pass of over 50 meters high.
It is here that you will observe your first orchids, notably Dendrobium moshatum and fimbriatum, which reveal their yellow flowers in the month of March. Two local guides and an orchid expert will accompany you throughout this discovery.
You will progress along small shaded trails through a forest whose landscapes evolve as you walk: semi-deciduous forests, jungle, bamboo and mixed vegetation succeed one another, allowing you to discover different biotopes of the region.
Along the way, your companions will also share their knowledge about medicinal plants and various plants used daily, including rattans, gingers and dipterocarps.
You will enjoy a picnic (included) in the shade of the trees, near the bed of a dry river.
In the afternoon, you will end this day with a swim in the pool of the Tad Say waterfall.
After this day of hiking, you return to the village before heading back on the road towards Vientiane, where you are expected to arrive around 6:30 p.m.
Dinner on your own.

Direction Vang Vieng
After your hotel breakfast (included), you head towards Vang Vieng for a journey of approximately 3 hours. Located on the banks of the Nam Song river, the town is surrounded by karst landscapes and is particularly popular with young travelers.
Along the way, you take a detour through the village of ThaHeua, located 25 km from Vang Vieng, on the edge of the Nam Ngum reservoir. This body of water was created in 1971 following the construction of a dam on the river of the same name. The village mainly lives from fishing and fish drying.
Upon arrival in Vang Vieng, transfer to your hotel and check-in. You then head out for lunch at a local restaurant (included).
In the afternoon, you get on your bikes towards Mount Ngeun. You will have the opportunity to reach its summit on foot to enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding area.
You continue with a visit to the Phou Kham caves. At the foot of the cave is the Blue lagoon, where you can enjoy a swimming session.
Return to your hotel. You enjoy the end of the day to appreciate the peaceful atmosphere of Vang Vieng, its colonial buildings and surrounding landscape.
Dinner is at your own expense. We recommend the Café de Paris, in a simple and unpretentious setting.

Around Vang Vieng
You leave your hotel at 9am and head towards the village of Ban Phatang, located 15 km north of Vang Vieng. This region is distinguished by its landscapes and limestone reliefs, which are home to many caves. You then begin a descent of the Nam Song river to reach the Tham Sang (Elephant Cave), located on the opposite bank. This place is an important pilgrimage site for local Buddhists and houses a footprint of Buddha.
Picnic lunch (included).
You continue your discovery of the region with a 3 to 4 hour kayaking excursion towards an organic farm. It is notably known for its organic infusions, goat cheese and fruit wines.
Not far from there, you reach the Tham None (Sleeping Cave), which extends deep into the mountain. Allow approximately 45 minutes to explore this cavity and observe its stalagmites and stalactites. It is the second largest cave in this region of Laos. Like many rock shelters in the country, it served as a refuge for the local population during the Second Indochina War.
You then return to Vang Vieng to enjoy some rest time at your hotel.

Destination Luang Prabang
After your breakfast (included), you head towards Luang Prabang for a journey of approximately 6 to 7 hours. Several stops punctuate the route to enjoy the surrounding mountainous landscapes.
You have lunch at Phou Piengfa (included), located a few kilometers from Phou Khoun, a Hmong ethnic village. You will enjoy local cuisine as well as a 360° panoramic view of the surroundings.
You arrive in Luang Prabang, the former Lao capital, around 4 pm. At the end of the day, you will have the opportunity to visit Mount Phousi to enjoy the panoramic view of the city at sunset. On the way down, you can stop at the night market to discover Lao crafts. This visit can also be done another day, depending on your preferences. Transfer to your accommodation and check-in to your rooms.
Dinner on your own.

Luang Prabang in every direction
After your breakfast (included), you set out to discover the main monuments of Luang Prabang. You visit the Wat Xieng Thong, located at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers, an iconic temple with local architecture and an important pilgrimage site. You continue with the National Museum, housed in the former Royal Palace, then Vat Mai.
At Vat Xieng Mouane, you discover crafts related to Buddhist art within its training center, before passing by the French Institute of Luang Prabang, the former residence of humorist Pierre Desproges.
You then head to Boutique Ock Pop Tok, a workshop committed to preserving Lao textile craftsmanship. You discover manual silk weaving and natural dyes, as well as the ingredients used to obtain different colors. A practical workshop in weaving or dyeing is also available as an optional extra.
Lunch on site (included).
In the afternoon, you can visit the ethnology museum (closed Mondays) to better understand the ethnic and cultural diversity of Laos. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a top-making workshop, a game enjoyed by Hmong children and practiced by adults during throwing competitions. You make your wooden top before testing it with the villagers.
At the end of the day, meet at Vat Pha Bat Tai to admire the sunset over the Mekong. Optionally, you can join in a game of pétanque with local residents.
Dinner on your own.

Immersion in Luang Prabang: the Kuang Si Falls
Optionally, you can wake up early to participate in the alms-giving ceremony with monks, between 5:30 and 6:00 AM, then discover the morning market before returning to your hotel.
You then head to The Bamboo Experience, on the outskirts of Luang Prabang, in the heart of a rice field environment. You participate in a bamboo weaving course and discover the many uses of this plant in the daily life of Laotians: fishing or hunting equipment, musical instruments, among others. You also take part in a bamboo cooking workshop, before tasting your creations in a sala overlooking the landscape. (Group activity).
In the afternoon, you head to Kuang Si Falls, located 32 km from Luang Prabang, crossing rice field landscapes. There, you enjoy the pools with crystal-clear waters and discover a small permanent exhibition dedicated to the conservation of Asian black bears, which are threatened with extinction.
Before returning to Luang Prabang, you make a stop of approximately 30 minutes at Lao Buffalo Dairy. You learn about the situation of buffalo in Laos, the care provided to them as well as prevention and breeding programs developed with local farmers. An emblematic animal of Asian countryside, the buffalo experiences a birth mortality rate that can reach 50% due to insufficient access to certain nutrients. The farm also works around dairy and cheese production.
You can get close to the buffalo, bottle-feed the calves and end the visit with a tasting of artisanal buffalo milk ice cream, flavored seasonally with fruits, sesame or lemongrass.
Dinner on your own. We recommend the Luang Prabang Kitchen restaurant, which offers affordable cuisine to enjoy on the terrace, with a view of the main street.

Pak Ou Caves
After your breakfast (included), transfer to the Luang Prabang pier. You board a private boat, accompanied by your English-speaking guide, for an excursion on the Mekong.
You first navigate south on a section of the river less frequented by travelers. First stop at Mekong Eden Farm, accessible only by boat. Created around 2017, this farm works to promote ecological agricultural methods and develop sustainable agro-ecotourism to support rural Laotian life. On site, you can exchange with experts and ask them your questions.
Traditional Laotian lunch (included), served aboard the boat or on a beach depending on weather conditions.
In the afternoon, you navigate north to reach the Pak Ou caves. Inside, you discover several hundred Buddha statues. The caves are an important pilgrimage site for Laotians, particularly during the Lao New Year, celebrated in mid-April.
Return to Luang Prabang, then transfer to your hotel to enjoy your evening freely.
Dinner at your own expense.

Last day at the elephant camp
At 8:30 AM, you depart with your guide to the heart of the Nam Khan river valley to reach an elephant camp. Upon arrival, you discover how the camp operates, the condition of elephants in Laos, and the various aspects that structure their daily lives, including veterinary care, feeding, and bathing.
You then head out for a walk alongside elephants through the forest. In a commitment to protecting and respecting the animals, elephant riding is no longer practiced in Laos.
If you wish and depending on the time of year, you can also discover the Tad Sae waterfalls. The visit is mainly possible from July to December, when the pools are filled with water, depending on rainfall. You then return to the camp for a buffet lunch, before heading back to Luang Prabang.
In the afternoon, you head to the Ban Vat That pier and cruise on the Mekong for approximately 15 minutes to reach the Pha Tad Ke botanical garden. The garden is closed every Wednesday. Upon arrival, a presentation allows you to better understand its diversity and the history of its creation.
You continue your discovery along a trail offering views of the karst formations and the Mekong. At the hunters' lodge, you participate in a workshop where you craft your own bamboo walking stick.
Your journey continues through the arboretum, the palm garden, a bamboo forest, and rice paddies. In the House of Mists, you attend a presentation on the importance of biodiversity and its conservation. You then proceed to the nursery, where an optional discussion about Laos orchids may be offered to you.
You finally return to the peninsula, where you meet your minivan for the transfer to your hotel.
You collect your luggage from the hotel before your transfer to the Luang Prabang airport for your return flight. (Flight booked by yourself, flight and times to be reconfirmed).
Note: rooms must be vacated before 12pm. Your luggage can be left at reception. It is also possible to keep your room until 6pm for an additional fee.

The information below concerns travelers who are nationals of the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, and Canada traveling to Laos for a tourist stay. Entry rules may change, so we recommend verifying this information with the official authorities before your departure.
Passport
To enter Laos, your passport must be valid for a minimum of six months after your entry date into the country and must contain at least two blank pages for immigration stamps and visa affixing.
The document must be in good condition (no damaged, torn, or altered pages).
Visa
Unlike some Southeast Asian destinations, Laos does not offer visa exemptions for nationals of the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and Canada for tourist stays. A visa is therefore mandatory and can be obtained through several methods.
Visa on Arrival: available at most international entry points (airports in Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Pakse, as well as certain land border crossings). It allows stays of up to 30 days and is issued in exchange for payment of approximately 30 to 42 USD depending on nationality. A recent identity photograph is generally required.
e-Visa: it is also possible to submit an electronic visa application online before departure through the official portal of the Laotian authorities, for a tourist stay of up to 30 days.
Embassy Visa: the application can be submitted to the embassy or consulate of Laos in your country of residence before departure.
The authorities may also request:
an exit ticket from the country (return or onward flight),
proof of sufficient financial resources for the duration of your stay,
confirmation of an accommodation reservation.
Health and Vaccinations
No vaccinations are mandatory to enter Laos from the EEA, Switzerland, or Canada. However, certain vaccinations are strongly recommended by health authorities:
hepatitis A and hepatitis B,
typhoid,
rabies (depending on activities and areas visited),
Japanese encephalitis (for extended stays in rural areas).
A preventive antimalarial treatment may be recommended for certain regions, particularly rural and forested areas. Consult your doctor or a travel medicine center before departure.
Traveling with Children
Minors must hold their own valid passport covering the duration of the stay, as well as their own visa.
In some European countries, when a minor travels without one of their parents, an authorization to leave the country may be required according to the regulations of their country of residence.
Other Nationalities
Entry conditions may vary depending on nationality. Affected travelers should inquire at the embassy or consulate of Laos in their country of residence.
